Our local MP, Danny Kruger, spent a morning at Burbage Primary School a few weeks ago. He led an assembly and explained his role as an MP in parliament and in the local community where he listens to the views of the people he represents. He answered questions put to him by pupils. He also invited pupils on a special trip to the Houses of Parliament.
Writing in his newsletter, Danny said, “Friday morning I spent at the wonderful Burbage Primary School taking questions from children in the assembly and talking to the head and governors about the challenges of funding in these difficult times.”
Zoe Garbutt, Principal at Burbage Primary School commented, “We were delighted to welcome Danny Kruger back to the Burbage family. The last time he visited the majority of children were several inches shorter! Understandably there was a lot of excitement about the announcement of the visit to the Houses of Parliament which rounded the assembly off perfectly.
Danny was impressed by the intelligent and thought-provoking answers given when the young people were asked about issues important to them including money/bills, petrol price, the environment and littering.
Roles were then reversed as children enthusiastically put up their hands to pose questions of importance to Danny. Many centred around the environment, with climate change, pollution and deforestation being top contenders. Danny shared their concerns, explaining the UK’s position and proactivity on a national and global scale.
Thank you to Danny also for his time with myself and the Governors discussing issues all too common in schools across the country surrounding the fuel crisis, budgets and SEND (Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) allocation.”
