This coming Saturday, it’s Lasso The Moon in Bedwyn village Hall. Karina Nicholson told us all about it. The event, dance, DJs and how and why it all came together. And why you should be there. Her story……..
Dance is the answer!
A few years ago, after attending a summer music festival, I rediscovered my love for dance music and dancing – something I had not done for decades. I learnt all over again how dancing the night away can be such a liberating experience, good for mind, body and soul – that brings both connection to others and freedom from the everyday. It is also definitely not something we get too old for! I firmly believe that dancing shouldn’t be just for festivals and should be available for all regularly as a great tonic.
However, despite best efforts at the time, I was struggling to find somewhere to dance after the summer was over, that wasn’t a long drive or train journey away, costly to get to and from, or that ended at 4am. How did dancing become seemingly so exclusive?
With this desire to dance on my doorstep in mind, together with a small group of like minded individuals, Little Red Poncho was born and our first dance night event, Lasso the Moon was launched in October 2023.
Lasso gets back to dance basics: quality music and sound system, good lighting, a dark room, an affordable bar – a safe, friendly and inclusive space. Lasso gives the DJs (all local talented individuals) the freedom to showcase their own passions and tastes and sometimes even their own music. Their only remit is to supply uplifting vibes through a mix of electronic music genres – house, trance, euphoric dance anthems in the main.
The venue for the event is Bedwyn Village Hall which is a large community space in a stunning area that is transformed for the evening to a night club setting. There is now even an impressive glitter ball installed at the hall. ‘The most fun I’ve had in a village hall for years’ and ‘I can’t believe this is a village hall’ are some of the compliments from dancers.
Lasso is aimed at all who love dance music and dancing, want to socialise locally and don’t want to pay a huge price for it. It also aims to be inclusive of age. The event draws in dancers of all ages – from 17 to 70+ and it is this mix of ages that helps create an atmosphere that is fun, friendly and safe. Lasso has had six incarnations to date and Lasso Seventh Heaven is up coming on 15 November. We have a magnificent 7 DJs booked for Seventh Heaven, including our popular residents Silver and Burn’em . We are over the moon to introduce the very talented Sidetrakka for Seven.
Tickets are on sale on Eventbrite and you can see more of the Lasso vibe on the Little Red Poncho instagram and facebook pages. Look forward to seeing you on the dance floor!
