Over 200 tractors travelling in pods of 30 visited Marlborough High Street today as part of Devizes Young Farmers’ annual Tractor ‘n Tinsel run to raise money for charity. Crowds lined the High Street and there were many very excited young children as the tractors made a very noisy arrival honking and hooting their horns and playing raucous tunes which included a rendition of the ‘Wheels on the bus” or in this case the wheels on the tractors!

The first pod included many vintage tractors before the big modern beasts arrived. Devizes Young Farmers’ volunteers, particularly those too young to travel by tractor collected money from the crowd for this year’s chosen charities (Wiltshire Air Ambulance, Bugs Fund(Burns Unit Group Support) and Salisbury Hospital’s Star Appeal). It’s not too late to make a contribution, click here for the Just Giving page.

Abbie Bushnell, a member of the Devizes Young Farmers’ Committee, told Marlborough.news, “What a brilliant turnout of Marlborough people. There’s so much excitement. It’s so important for people to see tractors so they can understand more about farming.”

The tractors had set off from Devizes at 10.30 and travelled to Marlborough via Pewsey. After leaving Marlborough they were travelling to Avebury and then over the hill to Hugh’s farm where they were stopping for a lunchtime BBQ and mince pies before returning to Devizes for the impressive illuminated night run at 17.00.
Hermione Moore, Chair of Devizes Young Farmers, told Marlborough.news, “It’s a wonderful festive occasion and I’m truly thrilled to be part of it. We’re bringing people together to celebrate, have fun and raise money for some incredibly important charities. I am so pleased the community have got behind us and shown their support. It’s a privilege to be supporting three incredible charities that mean so much to our members and wider community.”
More information about the event and the reasons behind the choice of charities can be found on the Devizes Young Farmers Facebook page.
