Kath Black, head of IT at Marlborough St Mary’s will be running a new series of her very popular ‘Computing for the terrified’ courses this coming June.
Open to all ages, this course was in full swing back in March last year when it unfortunately had to be curtailed (along with just about everything else) when the first lockdown struck.
Kath notes: “It is ironic that just when people really needed to upskill and start to learn how to use technology I had to stop the course. I’m also keen to educate about internet safety. I hope my courses will provide a service for the community.”
She will also be running two other course as well – ‘Making the most of your computer’ and ‘Developing your iPad skills’.
All courses will be run in very small groups at Marlborough St Mary’s CE Primary school in the new IT suite which has plenty of room for social distancing. The room will be thoroughly cleaned before-hand and is easily accessible for everyone with plenty of parking on site.
For those that don’t want to be part of a group, Kath will also offer one to one tutorial sessions. She will be able to help with creating a CV, and give advice about having a job interview on online.
‘Computing for the Terrified’ is for complete beginners and will help participants stay safe online while teaching them about basic Microsoft Office Programs including email. This course will start on Tuesday 15 June and run for 6 weeks ending on the 20 July . The course will start at 6.30pm and finish at 8pm. The cost of this course is £80.
‘Making the most of your computer’ will also include internet safety and anti-virus advice together with file organisation, spreadsheets, photos, email attachments and creating leaflets and flyers. This course will start on Thursday 17 June and run for 6 weeks ending on 22 July. It will start at 6.30pm and end at 8pm.
‘Developing your iPad skills’ includes setting up your iPad, how to manage your photos, organise your email and calendar and collaborate with others. This course could also benefit those who are thinking of buying an iPad as Marlborough St Mary’s has some iPads for participants to try out. This course will run over one evening – Wednesday 23 June – between 6.30pm and 8pm and then on Saturday 30 June starting at 10.30am and finishing at 3pm. The cost of this course is £55.00.
