The candle lit carol service held in Marlborough College Chapel last Saturday December 17 has raised an amazing £7000 for the local charity Hope and Homes for Children. Performing at the service were The Great Bedwyn Millenium Choir together with a combined primary schools’ choir, two young choristers from Wells Cathedral and A Capella choir, The BlueBelles. The Revd Colin Heber-Percy officiated and Claire Wright, a patron of the charity, gave a short address.

Alison, Richard, Liz, Barbara, Sally and Trevor from The Vale of Pewsey Support Group for Hope and Homes for Children told Marlborough.news, “The feedback we received from the audience described the concert as ‘uplifting, special, beautiful, and phenomenal’. Thanks to the generosity of everyone who attended, plus donations from those who were not able to, an amazing £7,000 was raised for Hope and Homes for Children.
This amount will literally transform children’s lives. Because of your support, there will be even more children spending Christmas at home surrounded by those who love them this year and for all the years to come.
Many thanks to everyone who took part for their massive contribution, to our sponsors and of course to the audience who helped to make the evening such a successful event.
We hope to see you all again next year!”

All proceeds from the concert will be donated to Hope and Homes for Children. The charity Hope and Homes for Children finds alternative, high quality family based care for vulnerable children, who otherwise would be in orphanages. Their work is now recognized as best practice by UNICEF and the World Health Organisation.
The charity develops family support services and establishes robust fostering and adoption networks. And it has a local connection.
Colonel Mark and Caroline Cook, who lived in West Stowell, near Marlborough founded the charity after their experience of Bjelave orphanage, in Bosnia. The charity now works with children in Ukraine, other parts of Eastern Europe and Africa.
