The children’s choir of St George’s Church, Preshute, aptly named the Junior Georgians, is 10 years old. The choir, which is for boys and girls aged 7-12, was formed by Andrew Brown (church organist and choir master), and his assistant choir leaders, Amanda Brown and Heather Croucher, in 2013. The choir will celebrate its ten years by singing two special carols at the Crib Service at St George’s on Christmas Eve at 3pm.
Andrew Brown told Marlborough.news, “It’s been a real joy to see the choir develop and flourish and it is a lovely feature of church life and has brought music to the church. The choir has sung at over 35 special services. Nearly 60 boys and girls have been in the choir and many have gone on to enjoy singing and music in general through their teenage years. The oldest are now in their twenties! Some have gained musical scholarships to senior schools and at university. Participation is free, and rehearsals include games, quizzes and snacks as well as practising the music.”
Heather Croucher added, “It’s heartwarming to see how the children develop musically during their time in the choir.”
The Junior Georgians meet four times a year and sing at a Mother’s Day service, a special Music Sunday service in July, the Harvest Service and the Christmas Crib Service. There are three rehearsals for the three weeks before each service.
New members are always welcome. Anyone interested in joining should contact Andrew Brown on 01672 516586 or andrewjbrown0672@gmail.com.
