The £21,000 play area was built by Marlborough Town Council using money given by the developers of the new houses on the former St John’s School site.
The opening was welcomed by parents who, until today, had to take their children across the busy Salisbury Road or George Lane to reach play areas at the Recreation Ground or Coopers Meadow.
Cutting a red ribbon to formally open the play area on Friday afternoon, with a mayoral command to “ready, steady, play!” Cllr Noel Barrett-Morton said: “I am delighted to be opening this play area, just in time for it to be enjoyed during the long summer break.
“I sure that most parents would agree that we need more facilities for children, and I feel that this is a positive step forward.”
