Burbage Primary School has made a splash this month with two incredible weeks of swimming in their very own pop-up pool! After years of trekking by coach to the leisure centre for short, limited sessions, the school decided to dive into something new—and it’s been a huge hit with the children!

The Fortius Pools to Schools initiative provides a 9.8 x 5.5 metre filtered and heated pool under its own marquee. This helps schools meet the Primary National Curriculum requirement of providing swimming instruction in either Key Stage 1 or 2.
Zoe Garbutt, Principal of Burbage Primary School, said, “From Year 1 to Year 6, pupils have loved having regular access to the pool, with daily swimming for those working towards the national curriculum goal of swimming 25 metres in each stroke.
We also made a big splash after school with our popular “Fun and Floats” clubs, which were filled with laughter and excitement.
Even though November/December brought the chilliest days, the toasty 32-degree heated pool was irresistible! We were also delighted to welcome the wonderful pupils of Easton Royal, who joined us each day. Their politeness, enthusiasm, and brilliant attitude have made their visits a joy—and they’ve had a fantastic time too.”
