The theme for this year’s Marlborough in Bloom Art competition was birds. “The response was wonderful,” said Steve Pascall, chair of MIB, “there are some brilliant ones. The children were very enthusiastic and the whole school participated. I hope they will participate next year as we want to see young people involved in Marlborough in Bloom.”
Mayor Lisa Farrell told the children, “It was a really hard competition to judge as the pictures were absolutely amazing. Everyone was so impressed and has enjoyed looking at the art in the display of the former Lighting of Distinction shop in the High Street. Everyone in the town is talking about your pictures. Thank you for taking part. Hopefully other schools will join in next year.”
Pupils were interested in the mayor’s robes and chains which must be difficult to wear in this hot weather. “Mayors always wear this,” said Mayor Lisa Farrell, “although women mayors are supposed to wear hats and gloves as well. Not really fair.”
The mayor commended four or five pupil artists from each class. One overall winner from each class was presented with a book token from the White Horse Bookshop.
