Last year’s President, Rex Sandbach, had nominated “Beating Bowel Cancer” as his charity.
Rex said that “as he was a survivor of this horrible disease, like several other Rotarians, he felt this donation was a great way to support this charity and say thank you.”
Rex was therefore very pleased to present to Jim Ennis of Beating Bowel Cancer with a cheque for £1,000. The money had come from various Rotary fund raising events over his presidential year.
Jim thanked Rotary for their donation and explained that he was also a survivor having suffered and recovered and therefore had a strong desire to help this charity. He became an active volunteer helping with fund raising and later he was asked to provide telephone advice and support to people and their families suffering from this cancer.
Geoff Oades of Marlborough & District Rotary Club said “this is another example of how local support for Rotary’s fund raising activities enabled them to support such important charities as Beating Bowel Cancer”.
