Wiltshire children and young people’s charity Splash celebrated their 25th year in real style with an evening event, ‘Inspire’, held at Marlborough Town Hall on Friday.
Splash patron Bear Grylls talked about the importance of supporting vulnerable young people as they face their own Everest, by being that extra hand to help conquer the challenges they experience in life. He followed Justin Featherstone MC who shared his experience with an inspiring group of disabled young people who were involved in an incredible expedition across the Andes. Miranda Sykes then wowed the audience with some of her favourite songs.
Guests were treated to delicious drinks and canapés from Vaughan’s Kitchen, many of which included ingredients foraged for on a Splash project in Savernake Forest. Wonderful concoctions such as rosehip spritzer and cheese tartlets with roasted nettle seeds were enjoyed by the 150 guests.
During the evening, Bear presented 12 year old Tia Fear with a certificate to recognise her achievements with Splash. The ‘Most Dedicated Splash Volunteer’ award went to Matt Lane who was delighted to receive it from Bear himself.
BBC auctioneer, Paul Martin, added a sparkle to the evening whilst auctioning prizes which included a Tiff Needell racing experience and a Bath Rugby mascot package and persuaded guests to part with their cash for Splash.
A total of around £6500 was raised for the charity which far exceeded organisers expectations and will give more vulnerable young people in Wiltshire the opportunity to attend Splash projects – building self esteem and confidence, the chance to overcome their fears, try new things and meet new friends.
Chief Constable Pat Geenty who hosted the evening said “Splash is a superb local charity supported by Wiltshire Police which has been helping Wiltshire’s young people for 25 years through positive activities. I am very proud of what this small charity has and continues to achieve in improving the outlook for vulnerable young people in Wiltshire.”
