Against a chill North wind with occasional bouts of light drizzle Mayor Mervyn Hall led today’s (Sunday 12 November) wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial adjacent to the Barn St roundabout.
He was followed by Claire Perry MP, Councillor Stewart Dobson, laying a wreath on behalf of Wiltshire Council, Lt Col Puxley of 4MI laying a wreath on behalf of the Battalion and then by representatives of Marlborough’s many institutions, each respecting the day with their own act of Remembrance.
The Ceremony commenced in the High Street where the Mayor inspected the troops of 4MI Battalion before being led by Phoenix Brass along the High Street, past the Town Hall to the Barn Street War Memorial.
The prayers and short address were conducted by the Revd Canon Andrew Studdert-Kennedy, and Alec Light, Branch Chairman of Marlborugh British Legion gave the exhortation. The Ceremony concluded with a service at St Mary’s Church.
