A petition has been launched on Change.org with the headline: ‘Say no to another retirement development in Marlborough’.
Click here to access if you want to add your signature to the already large number who have registered their view.
There are many reason behind the objections: pressure on health services (KAMP), parking, traffic, no accommodation for younger members of the community, and many more.
Marlborough is already experiencing a housing crisis which is getting more acute. This development – as presented in the McCarthy & Stone sales promotion is targeting those from outside Marlborough. Not those living here already. Their website is essentially an introduction to Marlborough, selling the benefits of living here, which wouldn’t be necessary for those already here.
This will be on top of other factors such as the blossoming of the Air BNB holiday rental boom in the town. Most to rent are flats or smaller houses – exactly what Marlborough needs for these younger residents. And – we understand – many of the owners of these properties have bought in to this area purely to create their own rental business. They don’t live here, these are second, third, fourth etc. homes, taking away vital properties for the Marlborough community. This is another linked, but separate issue.
If you don’t want yet another retirement complex to take over a key area of Marlborough, sign this petition. Many have already, you’ll be in good company…..
