It has been revealed during a Wiltshire Council committee’s scrutiny of next year’s budget that a voluntary redundancy scheme in 2013 ran out of control.
As part of the Council’s bid to save money to cope with central government cuts, they organised a voluntary redundancy scheme. This attracted many more volunteers than anticipated.
Finding money for the necessary number of one-off redundancy payments caused a “cash flow issue” and money had to be borrowed from the Council’s reserves.
It is planned to return the money once “the additional savings” from the extra loss of staff are realised.
