Wiltshire Council’s promises to complete road works are not being fulfilled – that was the view of several councillors at the full town council meeting on Monday (September 7.)
One example given was the promise to re-surface The Parade by June. Work has not started there and as far as Marlborough News Online can find out is not even scheduled to start.
Also under fire was the Community Area Transport Group (CATG) which is part of Wiltshire Council’s Area Board system. CATG is charged with prioritising smaller road improvement schemes.
Councillor Richard Allen who represents the town council on the Marlborough Area CATG, said that some of their prioritised works had been “sitting on the list for two financial years”: “Is there any point to CATG – it has a small budget – and now 25 per cent of costs have to come from parish or town councils?”
Councillor Nick Fogg criticised CATG’s decision to merely ‘monitor’ the passage of large lorries through Silverless Street. The signs that have been put up are not helping and there has been recent damage to the ancient house on the corner of Silverless Street and Kingsbury Street: “I am disillusioned with the lack of Wiltshire Council action.”
