Following Marlborough News Online’s report about Transition Marlborough’s plans to re-connect the town to the national rail network, The Crown Estate have issued a statement on the siting of a new station.
The Transition group want to put a new station on land owned by The Crown Estate just west of the Salisbury Road/Tesco roundabout. This is the land earmarked for 200 plus new homes as part of Wiltshire Council’s strategic housing target.
The Crown Estate’s outline plans for this development were on show in the Town Hall earlier this month.
Steve Melligan, The Crown Estate’s Strategic Land Manager, told MNO: “We are aware of Transition Marlborough’s proposals, however we have made no commitment in relation to access to our land as we are progressing proposals for a residential development, in line with Wiltshire Council planning policy which specifically allocates the site as a location for future housing in the area.”
