St John’s is currently recruiting for a summer Teaching Internship Programme, offering a great opportunity for young people who live in the area but who may currently be away at university.
This is a DfE funded scheme and St John’s is one of only four schools in the South West participating in the scheme. The internships are available for current undergraduates in any year who are studying STEM subjects (Science,Technology, Engineering, Maths). The programme aims to encouraging more applications to PGCE Teacher Training courses in Maths, Physics and Computer Science.
The interns will be based at St John’s for three weeks from Mon 20th June – Fri 8th July, after the end of the university year. The DfE pays the interns a generous £300 per week.
Kate Hunter, Teacher Development Manager at St John’s said: “This is the third year St John’s has successfully run the Teaching internship programme, and we’re really looking forward to welcoming a new group of interns this summer. Our Interns will spend much of their time assisting in classes, with STEM activities, and also help to run our transition programme for Year 6 students, and Sports Day. They all leave the programme with a good understanding of the role of a teacher, and we hope, considering a future teaching career.
