The first Marlborough Climate Day will be held on Saturday 2nd April 2022 from 10am-4pm in the Town Hall and at the Community Fridge. This is the first event to be organised by the Climate Action Working Party, which was created in response to the Town Council’s Climate Emergency Declaration.
The working party includes Councillors, Transition Marlborough, ARK and community volunteers with a passion for climate issues. So far, the group has created a Climate Action Plan for the Town Council, instigated green audits for the Council and local businesses and helped respond to consultations on wider climate policy. It is hoped that the Climate Day will bring together many local initiatives, organisations and individuals so that the wider community can be informed of what is available to help tackle the climate crisis.
The theme of the day is “What Can I Do?” and focuses on ways we as individuals and a local community can live more sustainably. The programme will offer workshops, demos, information and resources about how to combat the climate crisis from home.
Local businesses and organisations are contributing the following to the programme:
– How to build a Rain Garden with ARK
– Zero Waste living for beginners with Hayley from Packaging Not Included
– ‘Drop a tonne!’ – Practical solutions for reducing your emissions by Professor David Waltham
– Peat-Free Gardening with Transition Marlborough
– Open day at Marlborough’s hugely successful Community Fridge
Assistant Town Clerk, Clare Harris, said, “Another important part of Marlborough’s Climate Day is getting the community involved. There will be boards up in the Town Hall all day with post-it notes, pens and volunteers on hand to help start conversations around local climate issues. This is an opportunity to collect a snapshot of what people are doing for the climate in our local community, offer inspiration to others, and join forces on issues that lots of us care about. Everyone is welcome to come and add a post-it (or two, or three…) and contribute to the conversation.”
