On Saturday afternoon (October 15) it took a lot longer than usual to walk from the Rick Stein Restaurant to the White Horse Bookshop – the High Street was crowded with Mop Fair rides and stalls, with visitors and their dogs and children.
The queue for the Rick Stein book signing at the White Horse snaked around the stacks and display tables as about a hundred people waited patiently to have their copy of his new book of recipes, Long Weekends, signed by the author.
Whisper it very quietly, the Bookshop just about sold all of the available copies. The chance to buy an early Christmas present – complete with such an important foodie signature – was overwhelming.
Rick Stein had been signing copies at the Hungerford Bookshop in the morning – and they did sell out.
