The lych-gate was built in 1910 as a family memorial and it is a focal point in the village – passed through by villages from the cradle to the grave.
It also has a key role as the only covered seating area in the village.
One of the main beams had rotted and was endangering the whole structure so specialist repair work was needed. Dr Michael Handford, chairman of the project, hopes the recent repair will enable the lych-gate to survive as a village asset for another hundred years.
The Building Committee of the Ramsbury Parochial Church Council has raised funds for the repairs including grants from the North Wessex Downs AONB Sustainable Development Fund, the Friends of Holy Cross, Aster Communities Community Development Fund, Ramsbury Parish Charities, Ramsbury Parish Council and the Marlborough Area Board of Wiltshire Council.
The specialist repair work was carried out by TRAC Structural Ltd of Bristol.
