The Police and Crime Commissioner’s proposal to increase the precept for policing by 1.9 per cent has been approved by the Wiltshire Police and Crime Panel.
This means that council tax payers across Wiltshire will be paying more – with a Band D property paying an extra £3.12 a year to stand at £167.10 on top of the Wiltshire Council, fire service and town or parish taxes.
The increase was held at 1.9 per cent because under legislation any rises of two per cent or more trigger a referendum to see whether such an increase is acceptable to council tax payers.
