As the economic fall-out from Covid 19 begins to affect people in our community a group of Marlborough residents has started an initiative to reach out to families in Marlborough and the villages who have been hard hit by the crisis.
Marlborough Kids Meals has been created by Kymee Cleasby to provide free hot meals for kids through the summer holidays and possibly beyond. Kymee told Marlborough.news, “I know there are some families in our community who have been unable to access the free summer meals for children being provided by the Government. Some families are finding themselves in unfamiliar territory, as a result of reduced/no work/furlough etc. and don’t know (or want) to contact the right agencies to support them.
The idea behind Marlborough Kids Meals is to offer a No fuss, No registration, No agency follow up service to provide free hot meals for kids through the summer at least.
There is one email address marlboroughkidsmeals@outlook.com for people to request meals plus the telephone no. 01672 700644 for one-to-one contact to ensure maximum anonymity and privacy.”
Kymee, who has catering experience, is working closely with two friends to provide the service. They have already received many offers of help and support and have the use of a commercial kitchen on standby. The Jubilee Centre have advised on how to deliver hot meals and the Rotary Club have pledged support. The meals will be delivered to homes by a very small number of volunteers.
Kymee said, “I had a deprived childhood myself and remember being fed baked beans every day of the summer holidays. I know there are families who need help and this has tugged at my heart strings.
I have been bowled over with offers of help. I really want families in need to see this as a neighbourly gesture. I want them to feel they have value as a family and their neighbours want to help in a time of need.”
