Marlborough College, where the Duchess of Cambridge and the Prime Minister’s wife, Samantha Cameron, were students, has denied a Sunday newspaper report that it is opening a new boarding school in America.
The Mail on Sunday quoted Robert Pick, headmaster of the College’s new school in Malaysia, as revealing that a site west of New York was available for the creation of a new school.
Asked how the “Kate effect” might benefit a Marlborough College, USA, he said: “It can’t do any harm, can it? It’s very, very good publicity for Marlborough. But we do say to parents of prospective pupils, ‘We can’t make a duchess out of your daughter.’”
Jonathan Leigh, master of the College, told Marlborough News Online: “There is no comment to add to this. The feasibility was discussed but there are no present plans to open a further school abroad.”
