Karen Bulsara, who lives in Great Bedwyn and is a Governor of St John’s Academy, is to be the Marlborough Brandt Group’s new director. On February 1 she takes over from Dr Nick Maurice – who, thirty-four years ago, was one of MBG’s founders and who was instrumental in establishing the link between Marlborough and Gunjur in The Gambia.
Ms Bulsara will be working part time in a paid capacity. She is a self-employed consultant in international development and has recently been working on the evaluation of anti-malaria programmes in Africa and Asia.
Speaking after the announcement, Ms Bulsara said: “I have been aware of MBG for some time and recognise the significant challenge ahead in securing its future after the departure of its incredibly dedicated and inspirational founder, Nick Maurice.”
“I very much look forward to the challenge and trust that my marketing and international development experience will provide a solid foundation on which to take MBG forward into the future.”
Her travels to Gunjur begin in earnest next month when she will be joining a Teachers’ Study Visit during the half-term break.
She was chosen from a strong field of applicants after the post was advertised in December.
