Andrew Nicholson and Avebury have won the Open Championship at the Festival of British Eventing at Gatcombe Park – just a month after the pair made it a hat trick of three star victories at the Barbury horse trials.
Francis Whittington and Easy Target were in first place going into the cross country section, but Nicholson and Avebury won on time penalties.
Nicholson, based at Lockeridge and a member of the New Zealand eventing team, also took seventh place in the senior class riding Nereo.
Another New Zealander, Tim Price riding Bango took third place in the intermediate competition. Price and his wife Jonelle are based at Mildenhall.
