The Food and Wine Festival held on the Common last month proved a considerable success and is to return next year, Marlborough Town Council’s amenities and open spaces committee was told last night (Monday).
Despite the deluge of rain, the festival attracted more than 6,000 of the aimed for 8,000 visitors who came from as far away as Lancashire, Wales, Bath, Bristol, Reading and London.
“The organisers and exhibitors have been pleased with the public response,” town clerk Shelley Parker reported. “Visitor turnout was 6,032 with Saturday showing the highest footfall. Overall response was positive.”
She added: “The clear up after the festival was satisfactory and no damaged was caused to the Common.”
“Despite the weather it was a real success with more than 6,000 people there,” said
Councillor Guy Loosmore, the newly-elected committee chairman. “It is an positive addition to the events we hold in the town.”
May 16 and 17, 2015, have been provisionally booked for next year’s festival.
