A walker in Stonebridge Meadow has reported that several major cracks have appeared in one of the black poplars – and it will have to felled.
Marlborough Town Council’s Grounds and Estates Manager, Richard Beale, believes the tree has become dangerous. His view is shared by an independent tree surgeon and by Action for the River Kennet.
The tree, which may have internal rotting from rain leaking in through the cracks, will be felled as soon as possible.
The emergency operation will be expensive as once it is felled the tree will lie across the River Kennet.
