The Devizes Conservative Association voted at an Extraordinary General Meeting in Pewsey last night (Friday 17 May) to demand that the Prime Minister, Theresa May stand down.
Marlborough.news has been informed that the meeting, under the chairmanship of Burbage Wiltshire Councillor Stewart Wheeler was called expressly to debate the future of Mrs May.
They voted strongly in favour of a motion (116 for, 19 against) to instruct the Constituency Chairman, Brigadier Peter Sharpe to vote at the Conservative Party National Convention in London on June 15 for Mrs May to stand down.
This follows a recent Association AGM which was described by several who attended as ‘angry’ where Devizes MP, Claire Perry was noisily heckled by a number of members and some even called for her deselection. This meeting was described as being ‘completely without precedent’ by one long-standing member of the Devizes Conservative Association who had attended many such meetings over the years.
