The community effort to buy Great Bedwyn’s former Royal British Legion headquarters has failed. A group of villagers was raising money to buy it so it could continue to be used for the village community.
The community’s six month window during which they could have had first refusal on buying the building has now run out. And it is understood that a developer has offered to buy the building from the Royal British Legion’s central headquarters – and wants to build houses on the site.
The fund to buy the building reached £20,000, but the target was £150,000.
An application for planning permission has not yet been lodged.
