In April the Care Quality Commission (CQC) made an unannounced inspection of the Coombe End Court care home in the London Road, Marlborough. Their report – just published – gives the care home the overall rating of ‘Requires Improvement.’
This inspection was made to see how the home, which is run by The Orders of St John Care Trust, had responded to the previous very critical CQC report in July last year.
The latest inspection found the home still required improvement in two of the four areas inspected. The services was deemed to be ‘not consistently safe’ and ‘not consistently effective’. The other two areas inspected – whether the service is responsive and well-led – were rated as good.
Two points made by the inspectors were that ‘members of staff’ were not sure when hoists were needed and did not follow rules on fluid intake.
However, the report notes that people felt safe, staffing levels had improved, training was better and there was ‘a person centred approach to care planning.’ And the CQC report includes many very appreciative comments – notably about the quality of the food.
