Volunteers are wanted for a Clear-Up Day to clean up the High Street next Wednesday prior to the judging of Marlborough in the town’s its first ever bid to win a prize in the annual South West in Bloom competition.
Judging day for the competition is July 8, which is why two bids are being made to rid both the High Street and Priory Gardens of litter prior to the arrival of the judges on July 8.
“Volunteers are needed to be in front of the Jubilee Centre in the High Street at 10am next Wednesday,” town clerk Shelley Parker, a member of the Marlborough in Bloom committee, told Marlborough News Online.
“We are limited by the number of litter picks, gloves and special vests that we can supply. Some people will be given litter-picking to do, some people painting and some people weeding. This is an opportunity to show how the community is coming together to try to make the most of our wonderful High Street.”
Then there will be a second litter-pick day ion July 7, the day before the competition judges arrive to go walkabout, and this one will start at 10am and have the Priory Gardens as its target.
“Our aim is to have Marlborough looking its very best to impress the judges and hopefully win us a prize on our first attempt to take part in the competition,” added Mrs Parker. “We shall be most grateful for all the help we can get.”
