As the race to become the next leader of the Conservative Party – and thus Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland – get sunder way in earnest, Devizes Constituency MP Claire Perry is backing Michael Gove.
With the shorthand demanded by Twitter made slightly clearer, she announced this morning: “Look at the leaders’ plans for post-Brexit UK. Michael Gove will replace VAT with lower UK sales tax + reform business rate = helps the poorest + The High St. Authentic one nation conservative. Boris Johnson will cut taxes for the wealthiest. Authentic Donald Trump. Gove for PM.”
We need not stay to read the first comments on her Tweet.
Meanwhile the Conservative MP for North Wiltshire, James Gray, has been comparing the D-Day commemorations, the ‘scruffy rabble’ demonstrating against President Trump “…and the 13 (now 11) rats in a barrel hovering in corners of the Parliamentary estate ready to jump out at innocent and undeclared backbenchers like me as we pass by.”
Mr Gray sums up the tasks awaiting the new PM thus: “First, he or she must bring the Party, the Government and the Country back together again. We cannot go on as we are. There’s a country to be run out there, and squabbling amongst ourselves hinders it.”
“Second they must deliver Brexit…my own view is that if a Deal cannot be agreed, then let’s leave without one.”
