From November 30 the front desk at Marlborough’s police station will be open for fewer hours. The changes, which will affect stations across the county, are part of the Force’s ‘continuing efforts to reduce costs by £10 million over the next three years.’
These changes to opening times are ‘based on evidence that eight out of ten visits to front counters are made during normal offices hours.’
The new opening times for Marlborough station’s front desk are: 9.00am-5.00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays (but closed from 12.45pm to 1.15pm) and 9.00am to 12.30pm on Wednesdays.
Across the county these changes to front desk opening times will, it is estimated, save the Force £218,000 a year.
Commenting on the changes the county’s police and crime commissioner, Angus Macpherson said: “To have five enquiry offices open for business during normal office hours and three of those open on Saturday mornings as well seems to me to be a good service at a time of austerity for those people wishing to have face-to-face contact.”
“We are also catering for people who want to use their phones to call us, and those with smart phones or tablets who want to contact us online.”
