Over 70 people joined the Spring River Walk, organised by Action for the River Kennet on Mother’s Day. The two and half mile route included a private reach of the River Kennet between Ramsbury and Chilton Foliat.
River Keeper Rob Hounslow was on hand to explain details of the award winning habitat restoration works on the Eastridge Estate, and walkers had good sightings of the endangered Cetti’s Warbler as well as swans, ducks and moorhens.
Local farmer Martin Gibson sold eggs and honey, with all profits going to ARK and its work to protect and improve the River.
Organiser Charlotte Hitchmough said: “The walk was a great success, thanks to the volunteers who stewarded the route, the Ramsbury Flyer mini bus and driver, and the landowners for allowing us access for the afternoon. This is the first of several walks planned for this year, so follow our ‘River Kennet’ Facebook page or become an ARK member to make sure you hear about them.”
