New Zealander Andrew Nicholson, who is based at Lockeridge, rode the fourteen year-old grey gelding Avebury to victory at the Land Rover Burghley three-day event. It was a record breaking third win in a row for the pair in this premier completion.
With the fastest time of the day, they were ahead after the cross country. On Sunday (September 7) they rattled a few poles in the show jumping and had two time faults – not enough to deny them victory.
It was only in July that Nicholson and Avebury scored another hat-trick by winning Barbury’s 2014 competition.
New Zealand rider Jonathan Paget took second place and Australia’s Sam Griffiths was third. With Jonelle Price and The Deputy in ninth place, antipodean riders took six of the top ten places.
