Prospect Hospice’s aim was to raise £75,000 by Spring from the community in the Marlborough area so they could open an out patient centre at Savernake Hospital in the summer. This month – with Spring not even a glimmer on the horizon – it has been announced they have beaten the target and raised almost £95,000.
“A huge thank you to the people of Marlborough and the surrounding villages is the message from the fund raising team at Prospect Hospice.” With a grant of £125,000 from a charitable trust, work can now start and the July opening is on schedule – the project is a partnership between Prospect and Great Western Hospital, which owns Savernake Hospital.
Richard Hammond, the hospice’s director of income generation, told Marlborough News Online: “We have been overwhelmed by the generosity shown by the people of Marlborough and the surrounding villages towards our appeal. It has been humbling to see so many individuals, schools and businesses show their support.”
“Special thanks must go to the Friends of Savernake Hospital for their match funding of £20,000. It is hugely encouraging that the community clearly shares our vision to bring Prospect Hospice services closer to home for local patients, families and carers who look to us when our help is needed.”
When the outpatient centre opens, nurses and clinical staff will offer services including day therapy, symptom and pain management, family and carer support and bereavement services from a dedicated suite of rooms that have been offered to Prospect Hospice by the GWH Foundation Trust.
