Sirs,
The democratic decision to have CCTV in Marlborough was made in January last year by the Area Board and more recently by the Town Council.
The support for the scheme was demonstrated in a public consultation by a large majority. The High Street is a public area and there are concerns for public safety which the CCTV scheme would address. It is not only violent crime but low level vandalism and anti-social behaviour that needs addressing and discouraging.
The Area Board were quite correct in confirming their decision against a background of heckling and barracking by opponents. This barracking and heckling continued well after the decision had been made.
The anti’s lost the vote some time ago and they are now losing the argument with their belligerent and mob rule behaviour.
Yours
David Chandler
Marlborough
