What a ridiculous decision to suspend the SSE [Scottish & Southern Electricity] roadworks. Having just spoken to the site foreman, they were well ahead of schedule and, weather permitting would have had the work finished by the end of next week-2 weeks ahead of schedule. Instead they have been forced to fill in the trench and suspend the works on the back of a number of complaints by business owners.
However, at some stage in the near future they will have to come and do it all again. The worst of the works noise wise was already done as the trench was fully dug out. Also, people were by now aware of the traffic situation and would have chosen alternative routes for the duration of the work.
I understand the short-term traffic chaos this has caused in the town but suspending the works when it was going so well is a big mistake both financially and for the town.
Who knows, when they return to do the works, possibly in the spring or summer when the town attracts many visitors things may not go quite so smoothly and the traffic situation may turn out even worse that it is now.
