Sirs,
After months of depressing news of personal loss, tragedy, impacts of a declining economy, lost livelihoods and closure of businesses etc. it was wonderful to have two good news items in the local and national press.
Rick Stein’s restaurant is saved due it seems to a generous landlord and to Rick Stein wanting to continue to run his excellent restaurant. My wife and I look forward to returning as soon as we can . Well done to all concerned for saving this important local and prestigious business and the jobs and joy it brings.
Secondly, geologists have proved through some complicated analysis that fifty of the fifty two large sarsons at Stonehenge come from West Woods just west of Marlborough and were taken South to Stonehenge.
Archaeologists will now be researching the exact route that was used and whether the rough stones were worked on locally to shape them before transportation to Stonehenge. What a boost this could be to local tourism.
This shows the importance of the Marlborough Downs in our nation’s history. How many more secrets are waiting to be discovered on our doorstep?
Yours,
Ian Mellor
