
We are seeking a highly personable and well-organised School Business Manager to join our primary school and play a key role in the smooth and effective running of the school.
This is a varied and rewarding position, ideal for someone who enjoys working as part of a dedicated team and contributing to a positive learning environment for children. This role is integral to the continued success of our school as the post holder will be responsible for all non-teaching functions and will line manage non-teaching staff.
As the School Business Manager, you will provide strategic leadership and operational management across the school’s business functions, ensuring efficient and effective support for teaching and learning. Reporting to the Head Teacher and working closely with governors and the SLT, your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the school’s financial management: budget planning, monitoring and forecasting, producing regular reports, and ensuring compliance with statutory and audit requirements.
- HR and payroll administration: recruitment processes, Single Central Record maintenance, payroll liaison, staff records and CPD coordination.
- Managing premises, health & safety and statutory compliance: contractor management, risk registers, statutory checks, business continuity planning and policies.
- Coordinating procurement, contracts, income generation and value-for-money initiatives.
- Admissions administration: working with families and the local authority.
- Supporting the school’s drive towards a balanced in-year budget and helping to align staffing and resources.
- Line-managing office, premises and MDSA staff and ensuring excellent day-to-day administrative systems.
We are seeking a confident, organised and collaborative professional who can lead business operations with integrity and vision. You will be someone who:
- Brings practical experience of school or public sector financial management and budget monitoring.
- Is skilled at analysing and presenting financial information clearly to senior leaders and governors.
- Demonstrates strong organisational and leadership abilities and can manage multiple priorities calmly.
- Has excellent IT skills and familiarity with school systems (MIS and finance desirable).
- Understands confidentiality and can lead on compliance and risk management.
- Is comfortable leading HR administration and safer recruitment.

- Is confident working independently and as part of a team.

Salary: Wiltshire Council Grade I: £34,434 – £36,363 FTE
Contract: Full time, permanent and term time (includes 5 TD days and 10 days in the school holidays to be mutually agreed with the Head Teacher)
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week
