Performance in aid of “Read for Good”

Read for Good is the leading UK children’s charity in reading for pleasure. Children who choose to read are more likely to do well at school, get jobs they love, and lead happy, fulfilling lives. By providing them with the tools and resources, they will be able to discover a life-long love of reading.

Read for Good changes lives for children and young people through our core three values; Access, Choice and Inspiration. As a result of our work in schools, hospitals and community settings, we ensure that children have access to a vibrant range of books and stories, the freedom to choosewhat they want to read without judgement, and the inspiration to spend more time reading, because they want to.

In schools, we offer Readathon®, our flagship sponsored read. Pupils are motivatedto read as the money they raise helps buy books and Storyteller visits for their local children’s hospital. Our unique Book and Storytelling service can be found in 31 major children’s hospitals across the UK, including Royal Berkshire Hospital. Young patients are delighted and distracted by professional Storyteller visits, and a regular supply of brand new books. And in the local community, we offer an application-based service ‘Brilliant Box of Books’ – a curated box of books designed for UK youth settings. In 2025 we gave 10,000 new books, comics and supporting resources to 200 settings most in need.

“It’s a small thing to give a child a new book, but it does have a big impact – particularly in the hospital environment. Thank you for providing this service; it certainly put a smile on my granddaughter’s face.” – Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro
