
Now in its 18th year, World Book day is a UK-wide celebration of authors, illustrators, books and reading.
And children at St Katharine’s School in the Savernake Forest showed they were well-versed in great literature: as well as the obligatory stars of the Harry Potter series, characters from Sherlock Holmes and the Famous Five rubbed shoulders with the heroes of the Roald Dahl canon and modern works like Beast Quest.
One brave lad even came as The Boy in the Dress, after the novel by comedian David Walliams.
