Ian Anderson died on 26th November 2019 aged 85 and at his request was cremated privately.
Ian had a happy retirement for 13 years in Marlborough, chosen to be near his son James in Newbury and Heathrow airport to be able to visit a home in Switzerland.
After being educated at Winchester and Magdalen College, Oxford, he spent National Service in the Navy in the Caribbean and his working life was for Tradax, London and then in the head office of Cargill in Geneva, the largest and oldest (150 years) still privately owned American company in the world. When Ian started it dealt in grain and he was employed as a grain merchant on the Baltic exchange. Now the company deals in a huge variety of agro businesses worldwide. Ian finally became head of their office in Paris.
Ian and his wife Patricia retired to a home in Chandler’s Yard off the High Street. He enjoyed membership of the walking group, Probus, the Observatory, the History Society, going to concerts in St Peter’s Church and Marlborough College and being a guide for the Merchants’ House.
Ian is survived by his wife Patricia and his children James, Lucy and Kate and four grandchildren.
