The best place to see fireworks this year is at an organised display – it’s safer, and you get far more bang for your buck. But where can you see the best displays?
Tuesday, November 4
Rushall School, gates 5.30pm, fireworks 6.30pm, adults £4, children £2, family ticket £10
Rushall PTA is getting in there early, with a November 4 fireworks display. One for locals, or those who just can’t wait! Tickets are available on the gate.
Wednesday, November 5
Minal Cricket Club (Axford end of the village) 7pm to 9pm. Adult £4, child £2.
You can trust Minal to hold its display on the correct day, year after year. It’s always a good show, with a big bonfire. Locals retire to the village pub afterwards.
Friday, November 7
Marlborough Town Football Club, 8pm, family £10, adult £3.50, child £2, OAP £3, under 4 free.
For years now this has been the ‘unofficial official’ town display. The football club is at Elcot Lane, behind the Roebuck pub on London Road.
St Katharine’s School, Savernake 7pm to 9pm. £12 per car.
Set against the background of this charming Victorian school, this display never fails to delight. The only way to reach the school is by road, so the £12 per car tariff is reasonable – especially if you have two or three kids in the back.
Woodborough, Woodborough School, gates 6.15pm
Saturday, November 8
Aldbourne, The Old Malt House, from 6pm, £12 per family
This event is run by Aldbourne Children’s Book Group. The Old Malt House is on South Street.
Baydon, cricket field, bonfire from 6pm, fireworks from 6.45pm, entry by donation
Baydon is holding a best dressed guy competition. If you want to enter, you need to get your entry to the Red Lion pub by Friday, November 7.
Burbage, Scout Hut, gates 6pm, bonfire 6.30pm, fireworks 7pm, adults £5, children £2.50
It’s a bit hard to find – but well worth the search – if your not local. The event is held at the top of East Sands, past the village shop. If you’ve been to the Beer Festival, it’s in the same vicinity.
Marlborough, Scout Hut, gates 6pm, bonfire 6.30pm, fireworks 7pm, entry by donation (suggested £10 per family)
The Scout hut is at the Pewsey / Devizes end of George Lane. A second decent Marlborough display for those who miss Friday night’s football club event, or just can’t get enough of bonfires!
