Platinum Jubilee – Thursday evening – Lighting the Beacon on The Common

Evening – Lighting the Beacon on The Common


The event will start at approximately 9.30pm
The Beacon will be lit at 9.45pm
There will be a piper, a bugler, and Marlborough Community Choir will accompany the lighting of the beacon at 9.45pm.

To mark the Platinum Jubilee, more than 1,500 beacons will be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories and in capital cities of the Commonwealth.
The Beacons in the Commonwealth Countries and United Kingdom Overseas Territories will be lit at 9.15pm local time; The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors Anchor Chain will be lit at 9.30pm and the Beacons along Hadrian’s Wall will be lit at 10pm.
All other Beacons throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands and Isle of Man – including Marlborough – will be lit at 9.45pm.
Sunset will be around 9.15pm – come prepared for leaving The Common in the dark (stout shoes and a torch!).
There will be NO PARKING on The Common – please walk to this event. Blue badge parking will be available at Marlborough Golf Club.
