Pewsey Vale Arts Society – May lecture – A Window into Russia

Come and join us at one of our monthly lectures, which take place on the first Tuesday of the month, September to June, at The Bouverie Hall, Pewsey, SN9 5EQ.  Lectures begin at 2.30pm, with refreshments available from 2.00pm.  Lectures usually last about an hour.

A Window into Russia:  A History of the Hermitage Museum.  The lecture charts the history of one of the world’s largest museums, from its foundation in 1751, through to the 21st century.  From Catherine the Great and other Tsars’ voracious appetites for collecting, plus the addition of priceless collections acquired after the 1917 October Revolution, the museum’s eventful history provides a revealing window into the peculiarities of Imperial and Soviet Russia.
