ONE THOUSAND YEARS OF WOLFHALL :: AVEBURY SOCIETY LECTURE

15 March 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 11:59 pm
Avebury Society Lecture

One thousand years of
Wolfhall

by Graham Bathe

15 March 2019 at 7.30 pm

in the Kennet Valley Hall, SN8 4EL

Recent archaeological and documentary research at Wolfhall is uncovering

a massive, brick-built, Tudor palace capable of holding

feasts for hundreds of guests, including royalty.

Yet this is founded on an older, medieval stone complex,

once held by the most powerful men in Wiltshire.

This talk will explore the latest findings, and explode some of the

Victorian and later mythology associated with this legendary site.

Graham Bathe retired from 40 years work in wildlife conservation

to concentrate on historical research.

He has conducted an intensive 20-year study of Savernake

based on original handwritten documentation dating

from the 1100s onwards, which provides the context for

historical research into Wolfhall and the Seymours.

Tickets £8  (Avebury Society Members £5) on the door
