Abi is local. A long-time and active member of the Marlborough community. Her background is business, specialising in the financial area and a qualified Chartered Accountant.
Marlborough is central to Abi and her family. Living in the middle of the town her children have been educated here and her husband ran a small but international Marlborough-based company working with NGOs to help communities in many needy areas of the world.
So why become a Councillor in Marlborough? “There comes a time in life when you get the chance to stop and think and when you really start to appreciate if you live somewhere really nice, and we are so lucky to live in Marlborough, and I have really started to appreciate that more as I’ve got older. I have more time available and it feels right to get more involved in the town community that I get so much out of already.” Abi told Marlborough.news.
“I would love the opportunity to represent the residents of Marlborough West on the Town Council and to work with the other councillors to keep Marlborough lovely for both the residents and visitors.” she added, noting: “We have lovely open spaces and the river Kennet, which we need to look after and keep in as best state as we can, whilst also protecting the residents and businesses nearby from the problem of flooding that was experienced earlier this year. We have wonderful natural spaces in Marlborough and I would like to do my best to protect them to be enjoyed now and protect them for the future.”
What are the problems facing Marlborough and its residents? “Traffic, parking, threats to the Kennet and surrounding area through flooding, and lesser (but critical for businesses) the loss of the remaining bank branch on the High Street.”
Why vote for Abi? “I can offer a lot of energy, enthusiasm, and wide business experience. I believe I have a sensible head on my shoulders along with a sense of fun and useful experience in tourism, retail and finance that I think will add to the talents already on Marlborough Town Council.”
Abi also added – “Please vote for me on 4th July for the Town Council “
