The Marlborough History Society is keen to hear from people who might remember Mr Helmut Paulsen who owned the Merlin in Marlborough High Street for about twenty years in the 60’s and 70’s.
‘Paulsen’ was an assumed name given to him by British Intelligence when he defected to Britain in 1943 with two fellow Germans: they crash landed in a German bomber in Kent.
It appears that he then worked for the SOE for the rest of the Second World War and had a very interesting life.
A contact of the Marlborough History Society, Mr Charles Barker, is doing research into the life of Mr Paulsen and any information can be passed on to him via David Chandler.
David can be contacted vla marlborough.news at info@marlborough.news
