The UK’s most prestigious cycling race will be coming through Pewsey this autumn, organisers have confirmed.
The 120-mile stage six of the Tour of Britain will start in Bath and pass through Bradford on Avon, Trowbridge, Devizes and Pewsey, before heading to Hungerford and the the finish line at Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire on Friday, September 12.
Although the exact final route has yet to be announced, it seems likely that the 100 or so elite competitors, travelling at speeds of up to 55mph, will leave Devizes on the A342, passing through Rushall, before joining the A345 through The Manningfords to Pewsey.
Once through Pewsey, the route is likely to continue along the A338 through Milton Lilbourne, Easton Royal, Burbage, East Grafton and Shalbourne, before reaching Hungerford.
The news was welcomed by Wiltshire Council. Jane Scott, leader of Wiltshire Council said: “I’m delighted Wiltshire is going to be part of one of the most exciting events in the cycling calendar.
“Having such a high profile event race through our streets is a huge boost for the county and also supports our own ongoing legacy work to bring communities together, boost the economy and encourage more people to be active.”
